Week of Aug. 23-27 2001

Hello as we are now settling into the school year was we approach the end of the first month. Please be sure to regularly monitor your email for communications from the district office, school, and individual teachers. During these challenging times adjustments may need to be made quickly and it is important that communications are received and read in a timely manner. This week in U.S. History we will cover Standard 5 and finish Unit 1.  Students will take the Unit 1 Exam on Friday, August 27th. Study guides were given out in Google classroom a week in advance to prepare for the exam. A copy of the study guide is also attached below.

Grades for the first progress reporting period will end on Friday September 10th and progress reports will be given out during advisement on Wednesday, Sept. 15th. No late work for that grading period will be accepted after September 10th so please be sure to that all missing work is submitted by that date. It is important to monitor assignments weekly in Google Classroom in order to not fall behind. This course moves quickly and graded assignments must be completed and submitted by the end of each progress report and report card period. 

This week's standard:

SSUSH5 Demonstrate knowledge of the federal system of government described in the United States Constitution.

a. Examine the strengths of the Articles of Confederation, including but not limited to the Land Ordinance of 1785, Northwest Ordinance of 1787 and their influence on westward migration, slavery, public education, and the addition of new states.

b. Evaluate how weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation and Daniel Shays’ Rebellion led to a call for a stronger central government.

c. Explain the key features of the Constitution, including the Great Compromise, limited government, and the Three-Fifths Compromise. 


d. Evaluate the major arguments of the Anti-Federalists and Federalists during the debate on ratification of the Constitution, The Federalist Papers, and the roles of Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. 


e. Explain how objections to the ratification of the Constitution were addressed in the Bill of Rights.

Week of August 16 - 20 2021

This week in U.S. History we will continue in Unit 1. Students will begin learning about the Revolutionary War which covers standards 3 and 4 (see below).  We will finish Unit 1 on August 25th and the Unit 1 Exam will be given on Friday, August 27th. SSUSH3 Analyze the causes of the American Revolution.
a. Explain how the French and Indian War and the 1763 Treaty of Paris laid the groundwork for the American Revolution.

b. Explain colonial response to the Proclamation of 1763, the Stamp Act, and the Intolerable Acts as seen in the Sons and Daughters of Liberty and the Committees of Correspondence.

c. Explain the importance of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense to the movement for independence.

SSUSH4 Analyze the ideological, military, social, and diplomatic aspects of the American Revolution.
a. Investigate the intellectual sources, organization, and argument of the Declaration of Independence including the role of Thomas Jefferson and the Committee of Five.

b. Explain the reason for and significance of the French alliance and other foreign assistance including the diplomacy of Benjamin Franklin and John Adams.

c. Analyze George Washington as a military leader, including but not limited to the influence of Baron von Steuben, the Marquis de LaFayette, and the significance of Valley Forge in the creation of
a professional military.

d. Investigate the role of geography at the Battles of Trenton, Saratoga, and Yorktown.

e. Examine the roles of women, American Indians, and enslaved and free Blacks in supporting the war effort.

f. Explain the significance of the Treaty of Paris, 1783

Welcome Back! U.S. History Fall 2021

Welcome to U.S. History! Over this semester we will learn about the origins of our great nation through a collaborative engaging course that covers a time span from the early 1600s through modern day. Syllabuses will be given out the first day of school or any student's first day of attendance and will have a comprehensive explanation of the course. Please bring the syllabus back signed by Friday Aug 13th. 

As mandated by the Clarke County School District masks are required to be worn by all individuals on CCSD campuses including teachers, students, faculty, staff and visitors.
